Over the course of my musical life spanning several decades, I have had the privilege of encountering many musicians and, fortunately, experiencing performance in a wide variety of musical settings. Among these experiences, I had always dreamed of one day creating a ballad album. This time, I am truly delighted to return to the essence of performance—playing melodies on the saxophone—together with the finest musicians. I would like to dedicate this album, with my deepest gratitude, to John Coltrane—who passed away fifty years ago this year and whose music inspired me to commit my life to the saxophone—and to Elvin Jones, who showed me the path of living as a musician. — Naoshi Takeuchi
